Mohali, April 10, 2021: As per the schedule of the National Legal Services Authority, National Lok Adalat was organized on Saturday in Mohali district under the guidance of R.S. Rai, District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar.
In this National Lok Adalat, 2,781 cases had been taken up out of which 842 cases have been disposed-off by virtue of compromise and award of an amount of Rs.49,91,12,829 had been passed by the different Lok Adalat benches.
The Lok Adalat was organised to deal with the cases relating to Criminal Compoundable Offences, NI Act cases under Section-138, Bank Recovery Cases, MACT Cases, Matrimonial Disputes, Labour dispute cases,
Land Acquisition cases, Electricity and Water Bills (Excluding non-compoundable theft cases), Service matters relating to pay and allowances and retrial benefits, Revenue Cases and other Civil Cases (Rent, elementary Rights, injunction Suits, specific performance suits).
In this Lok Adalat, 13 benches had been constituted at District Headquarter which were being presided over by Sandeep Kumar Singla, Additional District & Sessions Judge; Parminder Singh, Additional District & Sessions Judge; Devinder Kumar Gupta, Additional District & Sessions Judge; Avtar Singh Barda, Additional District & Sessions Judge; Shikha Goel, Additional District & Sessions Judge; Ruchi Kamboj, Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division); Devnoor Singh, Civil Judge (Junior Division); Ravtesh Inderjit Singh, Civil Judge (Junior Division); Papneet, Civil Judge (Junior Division); Khyati Goyal, Civil Judge (Junior Division); Rasveen Kaur, Civil Judge (Junior Division); Kamal Kant, Chairman, Permanent Lok Adalat (PUS) and Karamjit Singh Sullar, Presiding Officer, Industrial Tribunal.
Besides this, three benches at Sub-Division, Kharar of Shilpi Gupta, Additional Civil Judge (Sr. Divn.); Nidhi Saini, Civil Judge (Junior Division); Sudipa Kaur, Civil Judge (Jr. Divn.) and two benches at Sub-Division, Derabassi of Gaurav Dutta, Civil Judge (Jr. Divn.) and Jagmeet Singh, Civil Judge (Jr. Divn.) had been constituted for National Lok Adalat.
For the successful organization of this National Lok Adalat, R.S. Rai, Ld. District & Sessions Judge had called various meetings of judicial officers, Presidents and Secretaries of the Bar Associations SAS Nagar, Derabassi and Kharar, officials of other Departments i.e. Banks, Electricity Department, Labour Department, Insurance Companies etc. to sensitize them about the National Lok Adalat.
Learned District & Sessions Judge, SAS Nagar made the general public aware about the benefits of Lok Adalat and that the award passed in Lok Adalat is final and binding upon the parties. It is non-appealable and the court fee is refunded. Even the parties go back satisfied. In other words, Lok Adalats are boon to the litigating public where they can get their disputes settled fast and free of cost amicably.

In this Lok Adalat institution of marriage between Mandeep Kaur and Mandeep Singh which might have end in divorce has been saved due to the efforts put in by the Presiding Officer and the Members of Lok Adalat. Mandeep Kaur had filed case against Mandeep Singh u/s 13 of HMA on 14.07.2020 for divorce. It remained pending in the Court of Shikha Goel, Principal Judge, Family Court, SAS Nagar. Both the parties had matrimonial differences and they did not have any scope of reunion. During the Lok Adalat they were apprised about the benefits of their reunion for better future of their children and their own future life. They both understood the benefits of the settlement and agreed to end the litigation. They also agreed to withdraw all the cases filed by them against each other and to live together in future. They went together from the court to their house to lead their matrimonial life.
