Amritsar, September 30, 2020: School of Education of Guru Nanak Dev University under the aegis of PMMMNMTT, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, organized a one-week online workshop on the development of e-content and designing of MOOC courses under the dynamic leadership of GNDU Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu.
While inaugurating the workshop, Shri. Parameswaran N, Advisor, Ministry of Education (MOE), New Delhi, he is looking after Online Education (SWAYAM), Connectivity and Broadcasting projects (Swayam Prabha) elucidated on the progressive Higher Education scenario and exponential increment in the enrolment of learners. Looking at the present educational landscape, He elaborated on the innovative initiatives of GOI, like Swayam, Swayam Prabha, National Digital Library of India, e-Yantra and Virtual labs. According to him, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are gaining momentum all over the world with the features of flexibility, Multidisciplinary & holistic education with a promise of equity and inclusion.
Dr. Deepa Sikand Kauts, Head Department of Education, GNDU, Amritsar welcomed the participants and reiterated the vital role of online initiatives of GOI in promotion of online courses which have become inevitable in the current scenario. She further elaborated on the need to capacitate the teaching faculty in preparation of their course materials in form of e-content and development of audio-video resources for their routine teaching, as online teaching has huge potential & promises for a new future of Teaching learning process.
This workshop addressed on various issues relating to planning, developing, delivering and managing online courses for Swayam platform. A rigorous schedule of technical sessions was intended to introduce the participants to a complete toolkit of MOOC Course. These structured sessions were designed to provide participants with the practical knowledge about creating the online courses for Swayam portal and live demonstrations were conducted on how Teaching faculty can make use of free softwares and work on LMS on their own.
Prof. K. Srinivas, Head of ICT & Project Management Unit of National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), New Delhi., Prof. Pradeep K. Mishra, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, Prof. J.V. Mudhusudan, University of Hyderabad, Dr Nisha Singh Deputy Director (R&D) in Center for Online Education IGNOU, New Delhi and Dr. Ramesh Chander Sharma, Dr Ambedkar University, New Delhi were some of the prominent speakers of various technical sessions.
The workshop includes various aspects like a) Hands on experience on creation of e-content & e-tutorial with the use of tools like Screencastify, screencastomatic, audacity, Open shot video editor, video show, DU recorder etc. b) Working with Audacity, Screen-cast-o matic, Camstudio, Screencastify, Padlet.com, Open shot, video editor & Animation tools as the tools for audio and video resources for the e-content. c) A thorough hands on to practice on various learning management systems like live classroom tools and numerous mobile apps like Edmodo, Google classroom, Moodle were provided. d) Delivering and managing online courses for MOOC platform with MOODLE and use of LMS was an exciting and enriching experience for the participants to deliver the course content in Blended learning mode and use of SWAYAM for complete Online Learning mode.
Transcending all the boundaries, the Workshop proved to be an exemplary learning experience for the over sixty participants from various Institutions and different parts of India. Wherein they got the opportunity to interact with the best experts of the country and got hands on experience to be a major part of the digital initiative.
The seven day workshop concluded with the presentations of Dr.Manpreet Arora and reflections on the workshop by Dr Harmeen Soch, Dr. Harpreet Kaur & Dr Raju Bondu as the participants of the workshop. Prof. Saroj Sharma, University School of Education, GGS Indraprastha University, New Delhi presided over the Valedictory session of the workshop. She congratulated and expressed her concern on the need of organizing such Research Workshops, Faculty Development and Orientation Programmes. She shared various provisions & initiatives of NEP-2020 for technology use and its integration for making teaching, learning and evaluation effective. She elaborated on the formation of NETF (National Education Technology Forum) as envisaged in NEP-2020 for exploring the potential & effective use of technology & promotion of online and digital education in both school level and higher education.
Prof (Dr.) Amit Kauts, project coordinator, congratulated the participants on the successful completion of the programme. He shared that this workshop was a success in achieving the goal of preparing the teaching faculty in developing competencies to develop e-content & develop Massive Open Online Courses. The participants were excited and full of zeal to learn and at the same time maintained the decorum of the workshop. He conveyed his gratitude to all the speakers for very useful sessions & appreciated support of the administration for such like activities in the university.
