Jalandhar, March 26, 2019: Divisional Commissioner Jalandhar B Purushartha today asked the Deputy Commissioners of districts falling under the division to ensure exemplary action against the violators of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the run-up for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.
Presiding over a meeting with the Deputy Commissioners here at the local Circuit House, the Divisional Commissioner said that all the Deputy Commissioners cum District Election Officers were duty-bound to ensure strict compliance of the Model Code of Conduct. He expressed hope that after the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, the Deputy Commissioners have already put in place a viable mechanism to check the violation of the Code of Conduct. Purushartha said that the poll staff must be regularly sensitized to ensure that they perform their duty meticulously.
The Divisional Commissioner also asked the Deputy Commissioners to keep a strict vigil over the printing presses to ensure that they do not violate the stipulated norms while printing the material. He also said that the Deputy Commissioners must also ensure exclusive training sessions for the officers/ officials to acquaint them with the newly launched CVigil App. Purushartha also said that efforts must also be made to involve every section of society in the electoral process to make it a huge success.
The Divisional Commissioner, who has been recently appointed as Accessibility Observer by the Election Commission of India to ensure wider participation of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) voters, also asked the Deputy Commissioners to review booth level accessibility of the PWD voters in their respective districts. He said that the Deputy Commissioners should map the accessibility of booths by the PWD voters and should also see that they do not face any trouble while moving in the booths. Mr. Purushartha also said that the Deputy Commissioners should also keep their movement and facility plan for the PWD voters ready to facilitate them. He said that in order to ensure massive participation of PWD voters in the election process ramps, wheel chairs and other facilities must be provided at the polling booths.
On occasion Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Amritsar Shivdular Singh Dhillon, Deputy Commissioner Pathankot Rambir, Deputy Commissioner Gurdaspur Vipul Ujjwal, Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala DPS Kharbanda, Deputy Commissioner Tarn Taran Pradeep Sabharwal and Deputy Commissioner Hoshiarpur Isha Kalia were also present.
