Ludhiana, June 13 ( By SK.Vyas): The district Legal services authority (DLSA) in association with NGOs, college students carried out a cleanliness drive in Sidhwan Canal near Gill road bridge on Wednesday morning.
District and Sessions Judge Gurbir Singh who is also DLSA Chairman accompanied by Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-DLSA secretary Gurpreet Kaur, hundreds of Paralegal volunteers, college students and NGOs’ representatives took part in this drive and removed plastic bags, old clothes, leather shoes, bags, medicines, household waste and huge quantity of religious material which was dumped by the people.
Later addressing the gathering, District and Sessions Judge Gurbir Singh exhorted the residents to join the drive which is aimed to preserve the natural resources in Punjab. He said that it is our collective duty to maintain these resources and should keep them clean.
He stated that the canal water is being used for irrigation purpose by the farmers and if the people dump the garbage in the canal, they will use polluted water for watering the crops hence people will not be able to get healthy food and will lead to serious health hazards.
