Jalandhar, January 24, 2021: With 200 players participating in 32 events in six days, the district badminton championship today marked the culmination at Raijada Hansraj Stadium.

Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori being the chief guest of the closing ceremony distributed prizes among the winners of different categories. He lauded the efforts of the district badminton association for organizing such a mega event while strictly adhering to the Covid-19 safety guidelines. He mentioned that the society was offering a platform to the budding badminton players besides promoting the game in the district. He called upon youths to must adopt some sport in their lives as it would enable them to be physically fit besides infusing a sense of confidence in them. He also explained his personal attachment to the sports.

Divulging more information, Member of the Interim Committee and Former national player Ritin Khanna said that it was as many as 387 entries were received for the tournament with the participation of 200 players in six days. He further added that around 32 events were organized during the championship and players participated in different categories ranging from under-11 to veteran category of players aged above 50.

Cash prizes worth Rs. 1.50 Lakh was distributed among the winners besides many other consolations prizes.

Khanna said that due to the Covid pandemic, spectators were not allowed to enter the stadium and live streaming of all matches through social media was ensured for the followers.

Prominent among others present on the occasion include Harpreet Singh, Anil Bhatti and Rakesh Khanna.
