New Delhi: 02.03.2021 : The Delhi cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took major decisions to release funds for scholarships to SC/ST/OBC communities, funds under Ladli scheme, aid and equipments for children with special needs and augment library infrastructure in Delhi Government schools.
Cabinet approvals of Rs. 100 crores for the Ladli Scheme would benefit school going girls. The Ladli Scheme, implemented by Department of Women and Child Development since 2008 aims at promoting education among girls, reducing their drop-out rate and providing financial security.
Further, for different scholarship schemes for the benefit of SC/ST/OBC students, the Cabinet has also decided to release Rs. 75. 98 crores. These scholarship schemes include pre-matric scholarship, post-matric scholarships and merit scholarships for SC/ST/OBC/Minority students from Class I to XII.
To ensure education is accessible and inclusive, the Delhi Cabinet has also approved an amount of Rs. 2 crores for the Talent Promotion Scheme for Children with Special Needs and Children with Disabilities. Under the Talent Promotion Scheme, disbursals will be given to the Inclusive Education Branch of the Directorate of Education so that Government schools can acquire equipment/aids and support services for developing talent of Children with Special Needs.
To improve and secure valued library books in Delhi Government Schools, the Directorate of Education has also been given an approval by the Delhi Cabinet to procure 4178 Steel Almirahs, at a cost of Rs. 7.2 crores. These almirahs will be used in class libraries, which are areas of learning in each primary classroom of Delhi Government schools.
