Jalandhar, April 28,20129 :Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today asked the Sub Divisional Magistrates to ensure timely and prompt payment to the farmers along with smooth and hassle free, lifting and procurement of their harvest in the mandis across the district during the ongoing procurement season.
Presiding over a meeting to review the procurement operation here at his residence this morning, the Deputy Commissioner said that payment worth more than Rs 172 crore has been made to the farmers till yet. He said that a total of 253335 metric ton of wheat has arrived in the mandis across the district till Sunday. Similarly, he said that 241279 metric ton wheat has been procured. Mr. Sharma said that the Sub Divisional Magistrates must visit the mandis daily in their respective jurisdiction to oversee the operations of procurement and lifting of grains besides ensuring payment to the farmers.
The Deputy Commissioner categorically said that any sort of inordinate delay in the procurement of grains was unwarranted, undesirable and intolerable. He said that the Sub Divisional Magistrates must ensure elaborate arrangements by involving the entire government machinery so that the golden harvest of the farmers’ was procured and lifted as soon as it was brought in the market. Mr. Sharma said that the foolproof mechanism needs to be implemented for this procurement so that farmers do not face any sort of inconvenience in the mandis.
The Deputy Commissioner further said that as compared to last year’s purchase of 5.39 lakh metric ton, in current marketing season 5.50 lakh metric ton was expected in the year 2019-20. Mr. Sharma said that around 78 mandis/ purchase centers have been notified for the wheat procurement in the district.
On the occasion Sub Divisional Magistrates Mr. Paramvir Singh, Mr. Amit Kumar Panchal, Sanjiv Sharma, Rajesh Sharma and Charumita, District Mandi Officer Varinder Khera, District Food and Civil Supplies Controller Narinder Singh and others were also present.
