Surjit Hockey Coaching Camp Best Coaching Camp in Country – Sports Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi

Jalandhar, January 7, 2021: Punjab Sports Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi today termed the Surjit Hockey Coaching Camp which has been running for the last 100 days as the best hockey coaching camp in the country.

on the occasion of 100 days of Surjit Hockey Coaching Camp at local Surjit Hockey Stadium here today, addressing an impressive function organized by Surjit Hockey Society, Punjab Sports Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi said that he is well impressed by the participation of more than 200 players in the Surjit Hockey Coaching Camp being conducted in the categories under age group of 14 and 19 years. Sports Minister lauded the efforts of the society and said that surely Surjit Hockey Coaching Camp is the best coaching camp in the country as all the players in this camp are provided with the best food besides best diet like fruits, soaked almonds, candies and along with hockey sticks &  sports kits for each player. He also mentioned the contribution of NRIs of Tutt Brothers and Gakhal Brothers of USA.

According to Rana Sodhi, the Surjit Hockey Society is organizing international level tournaments in the memory of Olympian Surjit Singh for the last 37 years, helping poor and needy parents to get their children married as well as providing scholarships to needy players. Apart from this, the society also organizes coaching camps for hockey-loving children every year so that a “New Surjit” can be discovered in them and these activities of society has kept the name of that great Hockey Olympian Surjit Singh alive today.

Sports Minister also paid homage to Olympian Surjit Singh on his 37th death anniversary and paid homage to this great sportsperson while high lighting the efforts made by him to raise the standard of living of hockey players. It is recalled that on January 7, 1984, former captain of the Indian hockey team, Olympian Surjit Singh Randhawa  lost his life in a fatal car accident at Bidhipur village near Jalandhar 38 years ago today.

On the occasion, referring the efforts made by the Secretary of Surjit Hockey Society Iqbal Singh Sandhu, Chief P. R. . Referring to the efforts made by Surinder Singh Bhapa and Joint Secretary Ranbir Singh Tutt  to install new astroturf at Surjit Hockey Stadium, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi said that they he has already flouted tenders to set up four new Astroturfs at Ferozepur, Marar (Gurdaspur), Surjit Hockey Stadium, Jalandhar and Dhudike (Moga) respectively and these 4 new astroturfs will be installed in the near future. Sports Minister also announced that when the new astroturf would be installed at Surjit Hockey Stadium, Jalandhar, the Punjab government would organize a national level hockey tournament here at its own cost, the entire responsibility of organizing would be entrusted to the Surjit Hockey Society. Meanwhile, the Sports Minister also announced to set up 3 six-a-side astroturfs at the local Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, Lyallpur Khalsa College and Kukar pind respectively.

Secretary, Surjit Hockey Society Iqbal Singh Sandhu, in his address specially thanked the Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh and Sports Minister Mr. Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi for installing new astro turf at Surjit Hockey Stadium. On completing 100 days of Surjit Hockey Coaching camp, he also announced to replace this ongoing hockey coaching camp in to Surjit Hockey Coaching Centre. On this occasion, Olympian Colonel Balbir Singh, Olympian Baljit Singh Dhillon, Olympian Harpreet Singh Mander, Olympian Sanjeev Kumar Dang, Olympian Rajinder Singh Nikku, Olympian Gurmel Singh Olympian, Golden Girl International player Rajbir Kaur, ADC (D), Jalandhar, Varesh Sarangal, Ram Pratap, L.R. Nayar, Natha Singh Gakhal were also present.
