Chandigarh Hotels suffered continued losses in the recent past

CHANDIGARH, JANUARY 27,2020  (  By Y.S. RANA ): The three CITCO outfits-Shivalik Hotel, Mountview Hotel and Park View—seem to have beaten the global slowdown blue.  These have not allowed the meltdown to melt its earnings. Continuing its northward march, these have registered a robust profit after a series of losses in the past.  The Chandigarh Administration had decided to outsource these hotels because of losses.

Hotel Shivalik View has suffered continuous losses in the recent past but in this financial year, it has registered a profit of Rs 5.62 lakh while during the same period in the last financial year it has recorded loss of Rs 1.18 crore. On the other, Park View has registered a net profit of Rs 1.85 crore while last year its profit was Rs 1.67 crore.

A senior official of the CITCO has also stated that Hotel Mount View in Sector 10 has earned a profit of Rs 3.13 crore during April-December of this financial year while during the same period of the previous financial year its profit was only Rs 1.51 crore.  Of this, it earned Rs 8 lakh from room sale.

A senior official of the CITCO has revealed that all this was possible because they have curtailed various expenditures along with the provision of high quality of stay to the customers were introduced.  Not only this these have charted out for itself a big renovation plan. It has not only injected a booster dose into the revenue generation capacity of the hotels but also positions these as a favored business destination. Better still, the add-on features and changes would place these in the four-star orbit.

The plan has included the construction of the multi-purpose hall of 100 pax capacity; conference rooms; shops; expansion of the lobby and restaurant area with a separate coffee shop; porch and a swimming pool on the ground floor.

The unused basement area of the hotels which have been reduced to a storehouse for waste and junk has been converted into a lounge bar with discotheque, lending color to the nightlife in Chandigarh. Hotel Shivalikview has the first of its kind rooftop terrace restaurant and a jungle theme party hall.

“While the global meltdown is estimated to have dented the earnings of the hotel industry in the country by more than 30 percent, we netted an additional profit of more than Rs 1 crore each hotel in the financial year and above the last fiscal,” said the official.  He added this has been made possible due to a number of innovative steps taken at the hotel management to beat back the recession and succeeded in drawing more customers to the dining table.

Also, keeping in view the taste of the locals and foreigners, Indian, Chinese and Continental dishes are being offered. “The presentation is very different. All dishes are being provided through sizzlers. Our feedback from the customers is encouraging,” says the official
