Exploring Non-Conventional Career Options for Pharmacy Graduates

Mohali, August 29,2020: University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) organized an international webinar for the students on “Beyond the Usual Rule Book: Exploring Non-Conventional Career Options for Pharmacy Graduates” under the IEC Series of MHRD Institution’s Innovation Council of the UIPS, by their well-placed alumni, Seema Gupta, Consultant Pharmacist & Director, AAKS (Vic) Pty Ltd., Melbourne, Australia; Renu Koul, Business Head, Tecsol Media Solutions, Bengaluru Karnataka & Veena Sehgal, Business Consultant, Cadence Hub, New Delhi.

Professor Indu Pal Kaur, Chairperson UIPS & President IIC of UIPS, welcomed the audience and introduced the Speakers.

Seema Gupta enlightened about the practice of Clinical Pharmacy as an interesting and rewarding career option within an integrated healthcare system, using her own experiences. Providing a comparative study between Australia and India, Gupta projected that Clinical Pharmacy in India is in a nascent stage and there is a long way to go. She facilitated a discussion about how to establish the practice of clinical pharmacy as an integral and essential part of healthcare in India, in a way similar to that in other developed countries.

Renu Koul briefly discussed the hierarchy of a marketing department in a Pharma industry and the responsibilities of a Product Manager and Medical Representative. She deliberated upon the role of a pharmacist as a creative partner and the importance of content in pharma advertising. With her talk she sensitized the Pharmacy graduates to shoulder their responsibilities by contributing in terms of knowledge and creativity; to market the products and help in an increase in return on investment (ROI).

Veena Shegal talked about the perspective of the Pharmaceutical Industry from a viewpoint of numbers and functions that are specialized yet interdependent and merge into one another. Moreover, she emphasized the importance of continued learning and understanding different aspects of a business environment for a successful career.

All the faculty members of UIPS joined the session. More than 100 participants from Panjab University and other Institutes attended the webinar.
