Ferozepur, August 2, 2020: After the tragic incident spurious liquor tragedy toll risen to 86, after consumption, in Amritsar and Taran, the Ferozepur police have geared up its machinery to put their hands on bootlegger. The extraction of illicit liquor continued unabated and in the past, a huge quantity of illicit liquor was recovered and destroyed in Ferozepur border villages.In the raids at different places on the basis of tip-offs at Kulgarhi, Guruharsahai, Lakho Ke Behram, Mallanwala, Mamdot and Ghall Khurd areas, as many as 18 persons have been booked in 12 different cases registered. While five persons were arrested, two were released on personal bonds beside one at Mallanwala who managed to escape from the scene.
However, it came to fore that the people living in villages of border districts are dependent on this illicit extraction of liquor and sell it to the general public, to make illegitimate profits especially during the lockdown period when wine shops were closed and due to its high cost.
During the rains, 980 liters illicit liquor and in 521 bottles were recovered and all the accused have been booked under the Excise Act and further investigations are on.
